ABOUT MANIPAL

Located on the southern coast of India, Manipal is a beautiful seaside university town with the perfect blend of nature and academia.
While the weather varies from six months of incessant rain to another six months of sunshine, what doesn’t change is the lush greenery, the warmth of the students and locals and the diversity in the cuisine.

From spending summer days at the famous Malpe or Kapu beaches, admiring the sights at Endpoint and Manipal Lake, to trekking to the waterfalls in the Agumbe forest, Manipal hosts just enough activities for the perfect getaway weekend.

WEATHER:

The region receives moderate to heavy rainfall between June and October, and from September – February, the weather in Manipal is tropical.

During the month of January, Manipal is mostly dry and receives minimal rainfall. The average daily temperature in January is about 25.8°C (~78.4°F).

HOW TO REACH MANIPAL

There are two main cities bordering Manipal – Udupi (4 km) and Mangalore (65 km).

BY AIR:

The nearest airport is Mangalore which is a 1.5 hour (65 kms) drive away. There are daily domestic flights from  Bangalore, Chennai, Delhi, Hyderabad and Mumbai.  Air India, Indigo, Jet Airways and Spice Jet fly to Mangalore. There are direct international flights to Mangalore from Abu Dhabi, Bahrain, Doha, Dubai, Kuwait, Muscat and Qatar. Prepaid taxis are available at the Mangalore airport.

BY RAIL:

The closest railway stations are Udupi (6 kms) and Mangalore (65 kms). These railway stations lie on the Konkan route connecting the North and the South along the west coast. Delhi and Mumbai (to the north) and Ernakulam and Trivandrum (to the south) are linked to Udupi station

Mangalore railway station is connected to Bangalore, Calicut, Cochin, Chennai, Delhi, Goa, Mumbai, Trivandrum and other major cities. Those travelling from Kolkata can travel via Bangalore/Chennai/Goa/ Mumbai and then take a connecting train/bus to Mangalore/Udupi/Manipal. There is also a train operating from Jammu to Mangalore once a week.

BY ROAD:

Buses ply between Mangalore and Manipal multiple times a day. Direct buses are also available from Bangalore, Cochin, Chennai, Goa, Hyderabad, Mumbai and other cities.
